Pepco
Holdings Inc. Selects Itron Enterprise Edition Meter
Data Management System for its 'Blueprint for the Future'
Initiative
|

Itron
has announced a contract with Pepco Holdings Inc., (PHI) one
of the largest electric delivery companies in the mid-Atlantic
region, to deliver Itron Enterprise Edition (IEE) Meter
Data Management (MDM) solution to support PHI's high-volume
data management needs associated with its advanced metering
infrastructure (AMI) deployment. This contract is a major
milestone in PHI's "Blueprint for the Future" initiative
to meet the nation's energy and environmental challenges through
a combination of energy efficiency programs and
|

new technologies.
PHI delivers
electricity and natural gas to nearly 2 million customers
in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland and New Jersey.
The open
architecture of IEE enables a utility to deploy a single enterprise
repository to manage all types of metering-based data-interval,
register and event data-collected from residential and
commercial/industrial customer segments. In addition, PHI
will deploy Revenue Protection Suite and Curtailment Manager
to improve revenue assurance and peak load management capabilities.
Both software products run on Itron's IEE platform.
Todd McGregor,
process manager and AMI project sponsor, said it was critical
for PHI to have a MDM system in place as PHI moves toward
AMI technology.
"By
deploying MDM in advance of our meters, we will be well positioned
for a smooth AMI rollout and we will simplify the integration
with all our systems," said McGregor. "Itron has
been a long established partner with a good working knowledge
of our operations."
With IEE
Meter Data Management in place, PHI can improve business processes
by reducing the cost and time to gather and reconcile meter
data from multiple collection systems, while also streamlining
IT infrastructure and improving data security. With its powerful
validation, estimation and editing capabilities, IEE ensures
the accuracy and consistency of the meter data for billing
and downstream applications. IEE also interfaces to a suite
of powerful analytical software applications for revenue assurance,
demand response, customer care and more.
Itron
Enterprise Edition is the leader in the marketplace, with
more than 30 IEE MDM customers managing data from 23 million
meters.
"Itron
has the industry knowledge and depth of experience with the
complexities of interval data from hundreds of successful
MDM and MV-90 xi installations over the years," said
Philip Mezey, senior vice president and Itron COO for North
America. "IEE supports both mass market and C&I meter-the
only MDM solution on the market today with that capability.
We know where PHI wants to go, and we are pleased to provide
the data management infrastructure to help ensure they achieve
the strongest possible return on their AMI investment."

Along
with advanced metering, Itron has seen an increase in activity
with meter data management solutions-solutions that
many believe should be in place before an advanced meter deployment.
In the
past 60 to 90 days, Itron has signed more than 10 contracts
with utilities and energy delivery companies in North America,
Asia and Australia for Itron's Enterprise Edition (IEE) Meter
Data Management software.

 |

By managing
large volumes of interval, register and event data from advanced
meters in a single enterprise repository, the IEE platform
enables utilities to streamline IT infrastructure and leverage
the data their automated meter reading (AMR) and AMI systems
collect to support a wide variety of applications, including
time-based pricing, demand response and load control, outage
management, revenue assurance, customer care, distribution
asset management, and demand forecasting.
Itron
recently signed contracts for IEE deployments at Seattle City
Light, PEPCO Holdings Inc., Georgia System Operations and
the Cucamonga Valley Water District to name just a few. In
addition, several utilities have contracted with Itron to
utilize IEE in pilot programs that will validate support for
AMI-driven business processes.
"We
are gratified to see the large number of customers building
Itron meter data management solutions into their AMI and IT
infrastructure," said Eric Miller, vice president of
Itron software solutions. "For an increasing number of
utilities, putting into place the MDM platform is a vital
first step to ensuring AMI success and a strong return on
their hardware investments.
"Itron
now has more than 23 million meters licensed under the Itron
Enterprise Edition platform," said Miller. "We see
this momentum in the marketplace as a strong affirmation of
IEE's proven functionality, scalability, maturity and attractive
cost of ownership. These MDM system attributes will become
even more critical as advanced metering technology is deployed
on a much broader scale."

Itron
Enterprise Edition Version 5.3 the Latest Tool in Meter Data
Management
|
 |
 |
 |
The latest
version of Itron Enterprise Edition (IEE) Meter Data
Management (MDM) is significant because it now supports both
SQL Server 2005 and Oracle 10G2 database products on a single
platform. The IEE 5.3 release also supports Customer Care,
Revenue Protection Suite, Curtailment Manager (only available
on SQL Server platform), and the OpenWay® AMI system.
IEE MDM
is an enterprise-wide meter data management solution
|
|
designed
to store meter data and relieve business processes and business
systems from the details of metering and meter data collection
in a multi-vendor, multi-technology environment. IEE enables
the application of consistent processes and the maintenance
of consistent interfaces independent of how, when or where
various meter reading technologies are deployed. It also enables
the most cost-effective meter reading technologies to be deployed,
without affecting upstream billing processes.
New usability
improvements include:
- Enhanced
Task Monitoring with pre-built filters and export capabilities
- Validation
Queue and revised validation reports that mimics the MV-90
xi report
- XML
Failed Import Queue
- Automatic
estimation routines for SQL Server users
- Improved
Service Mode file transfer performance
- Two-Way
interfaces to the OpenWay AMI system
- Significant
modifications to the validation and estimation components
of the online help
Additional
IEE MDM functionality includes extensive validation, estimation
and editing capabilities; advanced time-of-use, aggregation,
and calculation services; meter read request brokering among
multiple meter data collection systems (including legacy,
automated meter reading or AMI systems); sophisticated export
management capabilities; and auditable change tracking.
