Time flies
when you're having fun. It's hard to believe that nearly four
years have passed since Itron's initial release of MV-90 xi.
At a typical
utility, approximately 40 percent of its revenue is collected
from commercial and industrial meters. MV-90 xi, the industry's
leading system for collecting and processing interval data
from complex metering devices recently shipped its 366th system.
|
 |
|
The "MV"
in MV-90 xi stands for "multi-vendor." Over 160
interface modules can be used to bring interval data into
MV-90 xi, supporting approximately 500 different model types
of electric meters, gas measurement devices, and pulse recorders
that are manufactured by over 70 vendors worldwide. Interval
data can be brought into the system through remote interrogation,
import of handheld files and various other file imports.
MV-90
xi systems are currently being used in 20 countries. Use of
MV-90 xi is not limited to investor-owned utilities; in the
U.S., over 80 public power agencies and over 65 electric cooperatives
use MV-90 xi to collect interval data for billing, load research
and planning purposes. In addition, systems are used by the
ISOs in Ontario, California, and Texas, and by a variety other
organizations.
The most
current release of MV-90 xi is v2.0, which is actually our
third release of the product. Many enhancements have been
made along the way, with several improvements in the area
of gas data collection and analysis.
MV-90
xi is fortunate to have an active user community. Over 120
users attended the 2007 Itron Users' Conference and most stayed
an extra 1 ½ days for the post-conference training
seminars on MV-90 xi.
If you
have not yet upgraded to MV-90 xi, contact your Itron representative
or email knowledge@itron.com.

Keeping
Pace With Demand in the Meter Data Management Market
|
 |
 |
 |
As the
market for advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) continues
to gain momentum so does the market for meter data management
(MDM) solutions. However, AMI is not the only reason utilities
choose to deploy an MDM solution. In fact many utilities recognize
the value of selecting and deploying an MDM before moving
ahead with an AMI system deployment. Using Itron Enterprise
Edition MDM, utilities can increase the quality of meter
data across its enterprise by operating from a single, central
repository instead of separate inconsistent managed systems.
In addition, IEE MDM is a
|
|
critical system that helps utilities realize the many benefits
of AMI such as offering time-based rates and other demand response
programs.
In 2007,
IEE MDM made significant progress in the marketplace. Itron
now has more than 30 IEE MDM customers and 23 million meters
under contract-both market leading metrics. In addition IEE
customers are quite diverse illustrating the broad appeal
of IEE MDM. The technology is being deployed at municipalities,
generation and transmission companies, and utilities in North
America, Australia, Asia, and Europe for both AMI and C&I
meter data management scenarios. Some utilities get started
with IEE MDM to consolidate the data collection and management
of their C&I meters using the tool's unique xi Service
Mode feature which enables IEE to communicate directly with
C&I meters. While other utilities are deploying IEE MDM
to support hybrid Mobile and Fixed Network automated meter
reading (AMR) deployments and full scale, multi-year AMI programs.

Seattle
City Light to Install Itron Enterprise Edition Meter
Data Management System Complete with Customer Care and MV-PBS
|
 |
 |
 |
Seattle
City Light (SCL), one of the nation's largest public power
systems, will deploy Itron's Enterprise Edition (IEE) Meter
Data Management system to improve billing processes for its
largest C&I customers.
The recent
deployment of IEE will allow Seattle City Light to implement
automated data quality routines, manage the data in a single
versioned repository, and enable use of the data by
|
|
multiple
utility systems. In addition, Itron MV-PBS will be integrated
with IEE and SCL's existing customer information system to
help add rate flexibility, reduce errors and operational costs,
and improve customer service.
"The
ability to process and manipulate interval data is critical
to successfully handling complex billing functions,"
said Leighton Stewart, Seattle City Light Program Manager.
"This helps enhance our key account customer validation
and billing process. We also wanted to position the utility
for a future where we see greatly increased use of automated
metering technology. Itron has deep knowledge of the complexities
of interval data from hundreds of successful MV-90 installations
over the years. We found Itron's software to be a good fit
for Seattle City Light at this time."
With IEE,
MV-PBS and Itron's Customer Care applications, SCL can implement
new products to meet changing regulatory and market needs,
said Eric Miller, vice president for Itron software solutions.
"This will improve the quality of interval data for C&I
customers and allow for flexibility for future C&I product
offerings," said Miller. "Using one secure, centralized
data management environment significantly reduces the likelihood
of errors in business processes that use meter data. Because
IEE easily interfaces to existing billing systems and analysis
tools, you can deploy a cost-effective data management system
without affecting existing billing processes."
